Little Brothers - Friends of the Elderly (LBFE) is a national network of non-profit volunteer-based organizations committed to relieving isolation and loneliness among the elderly. The San Francisco Chapter of LBFE strives to connect older adults to resources that help them living safe and healthy at home for as long as possible, as well as connecting volunteers with lonely and isolated elders. Please find below some more information about each component of the volunteer program:

Visiting Volunteer: Visiting Volunteers visit twice a month for a year long commitment, providing personal advocacy, friendship, and assistance wil small tasks.

Social Functions: Social functions are luncheons and other social events offered to more mobile elders that allow them to come together in a community setting to socialize with young and old alike.

Holiday Visits: LBFE offers holiday visits on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and five other holidays throughout the year so that elders don't have to be alone. Seniors also can receive special birthday holiday visits.

Special Excursions: Special Excursions and Elder Day Dreams are opportunities for elders who are willing and able to get out in the city and do something new or that they may or may not have done in a long time.

Medical Escort: Volunteers assist elders getting to and from their doctors appointments.

Phone Check Ins: Volunteers provide phone calls to supplement visits when elder is not feeling well or if they need someone to talk to and offer support.
